Hokkaido Trip Part II
– Niseko, Hokkaido

Day 3 of 6 on my solo Hokkaido adventure in Japan! So far, the travel and exploration has been fun, but skiing has been a bust. It's been too warm to be worth renting, and it rained all day today... Hopefully it will cool down and dump snow tomorrow and Sunday, but if I wake up to more rain, I'm ditching this stupid resort town and going back to Sapporo until my flight home. 雪が降るといいな。。。

Niseko is cool and all, but it's a town built for tourists by tourists. Most everyone here is from Australia or England, either working or vacationing here. The few Japanese people I've met working knew good English, they have to. It saddens me to see the drastic difference in the treatment of space compared to normal Japan, the streets here are littered with trash that tourists toss without thinking twice. I'm paying a premium for food as well; I could buy 3 full meals in Kyoto for the price of one shitty hamburger up here.

I knew it was gonna be so, but not this bad. I'll be looking to travel elsewhere for the rustic Japanese country side experience I want. Today I took a journey down to Kutchan to grab a charge adapter, walked through the rain for 30 minutes because I got off at the wrong bus stop, and ended up at a cute little cafe run by a sweet elderly couple. Had yakisoba for the first time in Japan and at a reasonable price too! I love all the little kei trucks up here, everytime I saw one it made my day a little better.

Traveling solo has been liberating and exciting, but it's getting a little lonely. To my friends back in Denver, I miss you guys! To my Missoula MT friends, it we so nice to catch up and play some games with you on this rainy day! To my new friends back in Kyoto, can't wait to spend more time with you all soon! また来週
